Founded by Mohamed Kash and Mohammed Sameer, Yadget is a social network that centers on objects and geographic locations. The app allows users to discover and share content about particular items or locations of interest by tagging and attaching digital content to them the same way they attach sticky notes to real life objects.

Yadget was part of Flat6Labs' Cycle 1, and has recently won a trip to pitch at the Global Mobile Internet Conference (GMIC) in Silicon Valley, after leading more than 200 entrants in voting for the appAttack competition with more than10000 votes.

"There is a lot of content online. However it isn't linked to real life objects. People have to go and search for information for their interests," explains Mohamed. "Yadget connects  content on the web to objects in the real world. If you come across an article for example, you can transform it into a sticky note and attach it to an appropriate item."

How Yadget works

Using tags, users attach content to objects or places, with an exclamation mark for places e.g. (!StanfordUniversity) and a dollar sign for objects ($DavinciCodeBook). The tags are then linked to the barcode (tagging using QR codes will be added later on) or to a map location for others to find. Users can also subscribe to items and places they like in order to be notified when people tag them in any content.

For brands, Yadget means more exposure and more efficiency in engaging customers. The service allows them to make their existing social network posts accessible to people who are not their fans or followers. They can also engage with their customers while interacting with their products and venues.

When users tag items or places for the first time, a landing page is automatically created. The page can then be filled with pieces of content know as Yadgets, including posts, images, or video from around the web.

Additionally, Yadget users can collect content from other users and re-attach them to other objects and locations. They can also create “collections” to organize their own yadgets and the ones they collected. Users can make their yadgets private, public, or accessible to their friends.

Yadget is currently available as an app for android and a Chrome plugin. The service has been in a closed beta test phase, accessed upon request, but is expected to open its beta to the public in the coming weeks.
