Mention.com has a New Rival in Town: Meet Notify
Back
It is necessary for social media managers to monitor their brands, no question there. And while there are some monitoring tools out there, Mention.com has been the most popular and the most successful one to date. This however, may not be the case for long… We’ve spotted a product that is planning on becoming Mention.com’s biggest threat yet, called Notify.
Very much like Mention.com, Notify is a product for startups and SMEs targeting the market on a global scale, so they could see all mentions they get about their business, competitors, and the industry as a whole. Their main benefit is crawling the web and social media for the keywords that are relevant for your brand, your business, your competition, etc… and notifying you with the details. While their main market is technology companies in the United States and Europe, they aim to cover more industries in the future.

We set up this app with ArabNet’s social media channels to give it a try, which took about a minute or two, it starts by telling you to choose the keywords or hashtags you wish to follow, and then to give permission for your chosen sources to follow such as Twitter. The only nuisance in terms of usability was that we needed to integrate it with a communication platform called Slack, which turned out to be a really cool benefit since it pops up notifications of your mentions on your desktop.
Although some might liken Notify as another copycat of Mention.com, they give full integration with Slack, and soon with other similar widely used communication apps such as HipChat and Flowdock, which is more convenient than having to install a dedicated app, which is the case with Mention.com. Notify also aim to cover more sources that are relevant to the tech industry, like Product Hunt, Medium, Hacker News, etc… Not to mention, they offer everything mention.com offers(pun intended), up to 50,000 notifications per month for free - while the full package costs $300 at mention.com, an integrating it with Slack costs an extra $125, that’s $425 per month.
After they have launched last week, Notify got more than 2,000 Users in 2 days without spending a dime on advertising. They have a freemium model that they aren’t disclosing to the public yet, for now all of their services are offered for free. We’re wondering what else they will have in store for brands.
