The results are in from our Mobile Wars poll and the Galaxy Nexus reigns supreme. The results should come as no surprise as Samsung has been steadily growing in popularity in the mobile segment. In the July to September period Samsung managed to surpass Apple in terms of handsets sold shipping around 28 million devices compared to Apple’s 17 million.
Similar to its predecessor, the iPhone 4S has had a few dents to its image soon after launch. Reports of yellow-tinted screens, battery drainage problems, Siri going down for a few hours, and more recently a growing number of users reporting loss of audio during calls, did not however dim down the iPhone’s popularity with hundreds of people lining up outside of Apple stores worldwide.
Interesting to note also is Apple’s prowess in its revenues to sales ratio. “In its third quarter, Apple captured more than half of the handset industry’s overall operating profits — 52 percent, (…) with only a 4.2 percent global handset unit market share” reported John Paczkowski on AllThingsD. “With iPhone sales trending the way they are, and some of Apple’s larger rivals losing traction as they are, Cupertino is poised to claim an even larger share of those profits in the December quarter.”
Finally, while the poll showed that people are still reluctant when it comes to Nokia and Windows Phone, the Lumia 800 could prove to be the stepping stone towards success for both. Preston Gralla on ComputerWorld noted that while “no phone by itself can save Windows Phone 7 (...) Nokia has shown with the Lumia 800 that it can design phones that stack up reasonably well against the iPhone and high-end Android phones. If Nokia builds other phones to this standard, Windows Phone 7 will have a shot at succeeding.”
