Fransabank announced today the launch of “SIMBA APP”, short for ‘simple mobile banking’, a mobile payment solution that allows its users to send and request money, along with a number of other banking features. The service is the result of a joint agreement signed by Fransabank and Viamobile, a mobile banking and payment solutions provider.

For the time being users can use Simba to:

  • Send and request money
  • Recharge prepaid phone lines (for both Alfa & Touch)
  • Recharge their internet subscription
  • Contribute money to wedding lists
  • Pay parking fines
  • Perform any online banking activity including viewing account balances, view transactions, request a checkbook, etc
The service however will grow to include additional functions, and users "should be able to pay the gas station, the fast food delivery person and concert tickets” in the near future according to Karim Khoury, Chairman and CEO of Viamobile.

He continued: “Today, we are launching this latest innovation in the world of payment as a first step towards this cashless future. All you need is a mobile phone and a bank account.”

The company also ran a series of 'hidden camera' sketches to promote the service.
