Apple Event Live Tonight!

Apple will most probably, more likely than not, almost definitively announce the iPhone 5 tonight. While there hasn’t been an official statement from Apple claiming that it will unveil a new iPhone, leaks on tech blogs and rumor sites are beyond sufficient to suggest that Apple will try and restore its dominance of the smartphone market with a new handset after Samsung’s Galaxy S3 outsold the iPhone 4S in the US during August. Here's what to expect tonight:

Bigger Display

When the first iPhone was released six years ago, it sported what was considered at the time a massive display for a mobile device. Nowadays it seems rather difficult to find a smaller screened smartphone, at least among the high end or flagship devices on the market (devices got so big they had to invent the word phablet!). Kepping up with the times, the new phone is expected to have a 4 inch ridiculously-high resolution display, making the shape of the phone slightly more elongated, but not wider though, compared to previous versions.

4G

It’s about time Apple introduces LTE to its phones. 4G was expected to unfold with the previous installment of the iPhone but to everyone’s surprise it didn’t. Since 4G is way more adopted now by mobile operators it is very likely that Apple will follow other device manufacturers this time around and include it in its new device.

Smaller Pin Dock Connector, Thinner Design?

A number of sources have suggested that the new phone will replace the 30 pin dock connector with a 19 or 8 pin dock, with the more recent rumors pointing to the latter. Reason: Apple is looking to cash in on adapters or, more probably, the new dock means that the new phone will be slimmer.

The event is also expected to include new iPods, a bigger iPod/iPad Mini device. Only few hours remain to separate fact from fiction. Be sure to tune in on Twitter  for our live coverage starting at 8, and feel free to share your thoughts and expectations in the comments section below.
