Google recently announced that its new Nexus 4 smartphone and the Nexus 10 tablet will go on sale on the 13th of November.
Google states on its website that the Nexus 10, which is manufactured by Samsung, ten inch display has the “world’s highest resolution tablet display.”
The display sports 300 pixels per inch. While the battery life should last 500 hours on standby, or 9 hours of video play according to the company.
Nexus 4, which is manufactured by LG, features a new panoramic camera called Photo Sphere.
Google states that Photo Sphere “lets you capture images that are literally larger than life. Snap shots up, down and in every direction to create stunning 360-degree immersive experiences” on its website.
Both devices can be used as video game controllers when connected wirelessly to a TV.
Google also released a new iteration of the Nexus line’s operating system Jelly Bean, or Android 4.2. Google Now has also been added to the new upgrade. The service notifies users of their flight schedule while also suggesting hotels. It can display sales offers and promotions depending on users' locations and the content of their "personal emails".
Nexus 10 can support multi-user profiles, making it easier to share the device with different people.
Google will be competing with Apple’s 4th generation iPad and iPad mini, and Microsoft’s Surface for the upcoming holiday sales. All of these devices have been unveiled in special events that stormed the tech scene in the US for the last couple of weeks.
The iPad still clearly leads the tablet market, but both Nexus and Surface represent a viable threat for this dominance. Some Apple fans expressed their frustration on social networks due to the release of the 4th generation of the iPad merely 7 months after the 3rd generation, bearing in mind that both devices sport the high density Retina displays.
Google, on the other side, released Nexus 10 only after four months of Nexus 7, which was produced last July with Asus.
Google also announced new 3G ready Nexus 7 devices, meanwhile Nexus 10 only supports WiFi.
On the smartphone front, Nexus 4 is the fourth release from Google, following Nexus 1, Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus.
Google stated that there are more than 675 thousand apps available on its application store Google Play; where as Apple states that it has more than 275 thousand applications for the latest iPad.
Google also announced that it will be adding more music content to its stores in the UK, France, Italy and Spain.
Nexus 4 will be available in $299 and $349 depending on the storage and 3G packages, while Nexus 10 will be priced at $399 and $499 for the 16 and 32 models respectively.
It is worth mentioning that Google cancelled its launch event for the new devices in New York because of Hurricane Sandy, and didn't announce a new date yet.
Certainly Google is the biggest winner from the legal wars between Apple and Samsung, and that the coming weeks till the new year will either prove this right or wrong.
