Oil is one of the most critical fluids for vehicles. If there is blood in the human body, then in the car engine, there is oil. Many components in the engine require lubrication, and this role is left to the oil. In addition, oil also has a function to help the cooling process and clean car engine components. So what if you mix different brands of car oil? Given its essential function, replacement needs to be done according to the manufacturer's recommendations. The replacement is done because it works when the engine is started. Over time the oil will decrease in quality. Sometimes, there is someone who adds oil but uses different specifications from those already in the car engine. The addition is usually done when there are several conditions to reduce the oil, such as a leaking piston seal, leaking oil crankcase, and others. This could be due to being in a remote area and not finding the same oil as the oil in the engine. What if you do, is there any destructive impact on the car engine? Mixing different brands of oil So for those of you who have mixed oils of different brands or intend to do so and still don't understand, then don't worry. Because the brand is other but uses the appropriate viscosity, it is still within safe limits. For example, your car engine uses brand A with a viscosity of 10W-40. After that, add brand B oil which has the same viscosity, namely 10W-40. It is still tolerated and is likely to remain safe. It's just that when it comes to recommendations, you should use the same brand of oil. Mixing Different Car Oils with Different Specifications It's different again if the mixing is done with other specifications. Although using the same brand, it is not recommended if you mix oils with different specifications. The mixed oil is of synthetic spec and mineral spec; this can potentially cause mud to form on the car engine. So the two specs of the oil have different additives, so they will clump when mixing. However, if faced with an urgent situation, even those that should not be allowed. Considering that car engines need oil for their performance, compared to lack of oil or running out of oil, it is better to use oil with different specifications. What needs to be noted is that this is indeed done in an emergency or urgent condition. If it is in a non-emergency situation, you should immediately drain the car engine and do an oil change again according to the recommended specifications. Disadvantages of Mixing Car Oil If Different Specifications There are disadvantages when mixing oils of different specifications. So when done for a long time, it will produce some problems such as the engine pull so slow. Another thing that is felt is that fuel consumption is more wasteful, and there is a risk of sludge appearing. The next problem that can be experienced is that the oil pump can be damaged. It is highly recommended to change the oil according to specifications. It is not recommended to mix car oils of different specifications if not in an emergency condition.
