Moroccan Online Shoppers Can Now Compare Prices With This New Tool
Back
Pricyme is an e-commerce based business that does NOT sell products directly on their website, instead they give their customers the best options from other e-commerce websites in Morocco. They have been working on an automated system that scans through e-commerce sites, so that visitors can take full advantage from the best online deals.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg, by compiling all this data, Pricyme has access to much information that could be very useful to these e-commerce sites, like Jumia, Souq.com, MarkaVIP, etc…
So they decided to build a tool they can sell to online businesses who can then monitor their competition and get insightful information on how to drive more sales.
Moroccan Founder and CEO Fares Akram launched the website while residing in France about 18 months ago, but didn’t start working on it full-time until he came back to Morocco.
You may be asking how Morocco is actually doing in e-commerce. According to Maroc Telecommerce, the first e-commerce operator in the country, the amount of purchases and payments online increased from $3.8 million USD in 2008 to $90 million USD in 2012, with more than 1.25 million transactions on the platform alone. So it is obvious that e-commerce in Morocco has been rising heavily, which offers an opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs like Akram and upcoming e-commerce websites.
Unlike price comparison websites that are manually set and have limited content, Pricyme’s process is automated, which means the information is collected automatically from all e-commerce websites selling in Morocco, including their offers, and graphs showing the history of their price changes overtime. They also have a Google Chrome extension; once installed, it can give different prices to users without going to pricy.me.
Convenience? Check.
“It’s difficult for Moroccans to keep buying from Amazon or eBay because there is a 1,000 Euros limit per year for foreign e-commerce sites.” Akram Fares
This is another reason Pricyme might be on to something here… However, it’s important to note that they don’t compare websites that sell services, they can only compare physical products. And so far they have the database of 30 of the biggest e-commerce websites in Morocco.
Challenges and Bridges Ahead:
So far most online shoppers aren’t aware of a price comparison tool. Using the website to find what you’re looking for is rather easy, but people’s common impulse is to go to a specific e-commerce site, and look for offers there. This is what Pricyme wants to change, to allow people to have easy access to different buying decisions and save money.
“Entrepreneurship is not a sprint, it’s a marathon, so we have to persevere everyday and just work work work until we reach our goals."
When asked about upcoming investments. Akram answered: “We aren’t looking for investments yet. We would rather wait for a stronger foothold before we start negotiating for extra funds. We are partnering with the top 3 e-commerce websites here in Morocco to make an affiliation program. These three are responsible for 90% of all purchases in the market.”
