Pixelated Palestine was conceived by Rami el-Ashi, Cyprus born Palestinian living in Hong Kong, with the aim raising one million dollars for groups such as the PCRF (Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund), ISM (International Solidarity Movement) and various others through the sale of pixels.

The pixel grid, made up of a million pixels in total, will be split into 10x10 blocks purchasable for a hundred dollars. The purchased space would redirect to a blog or website of the buyer’s choice.

Pixelated Palestine is Rami’s second social project. In 2010 he re-started a project called “The Trusted Network”, a private project accessible to members of the “aSmallWorld” social network aimed at collecting small 10 dollar donations from members as initial capital for philanthropic projects.

While Rami admits that the idea behind Pixelated Palestine has been done before, he pointed out that this is the first time such a model has been applied to support a local cause.

Pixelated Palestine is expected to launch and pixels will be up for grabs in early October.
