Poll: What's Your Favorite Social Media Campaign?

Based on a report which will be published in full at Digital Cream Dubai later this month, more than half of businesses across MENA will increase spending on social media penetration in 2012.

The report, which surveys a number of companies operating in MENA, shows that 69% plan to increase investment in offsite social media, incorporating platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, while 54% will boost their budgets for on-site social media, which include blogs and other interactive features.

Companies have been pushing to incorporate social networks in their business as those who successfully utilize social media increase web traffic, lead generation and revenues.

Facebook's Timeline will soon be mandatory [Poll]

In the summer of 2011, Timeline, a new profile format created by Facebook was introduced to the social network. The feature’s purpose according to Zuckerberg was to tell the story of your life and express yourself in a completely new way. The format had been voluntary, but as of late, users are being notified of their transition to the new layout, with a week trial period before the switch becomes permanent, which means users have 7 days to scour their past to hide any posts or photos before it’s too late. While Timeline won't expose anything that wasn't on your Facebook page already, it might bring to the forefront items that were previously buried. For those who haven't experienced it yet, here's a quick overview.

SOPA & the Vigilante provision

Wikipedia, Reddit, Google, WordPress, Mozilla, Facebook, Kaspersky, Tumblr, Twitter, Yahoo, and as much as 7000 websites expressed their dismay today at the SOPA (Stop Online Privacy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) legislations by blocking out, to varying degrees, content from their websites.

SOPA was conceived to protect ‘Big Media’ and the entertainment industry, record labels, movie studios and TV networks, from intellectual property theft. However the legislation spurred a major backlash from a large number of websites, pundits and associations.
