Lebelik.com Takes Lebanese Fashion across the Globe
Lebelik is a fashion e-commerce website that offers Lebanese designer clothes. The idea for the website came to life when founder Louise Doumet was traveling and kept being asked about certain items she was wearing that originated from her home country Lebanon. That eventually gave Louise and her cofounder Michel Doumet, her twin brother, the idea to start a website to cater for this demand.
The website currently features items from over 20 Lebanese fashion designers including clothing, bags, shoes, Lingerie, and customizable jewelry available for shoppers all over the globe.
Louise shared some interesting insights from her experience with Lebelik. When asked about obstacles, she cited two major hurdles she faces running her business: on the global level, convincing potential buyers that items are of equal quality to global brands has been a challenge as the foreign market is unfamiliar with some Lebanese designers; on the other hand, in Lebanon, some users are still hesitant to purchase online and tend to use Lebelik to browse items, but then resort to purchasing offline.
Louise also noted the effect of being active on social platforms for her website. When she posts on Facebook for example, visitors increase by as much as five folds on a given day. Lebelik also utilizes Pinterest to market its products, though still in a test phase as Louise noted, “people like images, if they see a picture, they are more likely to buy.”
Lebelik is looking to take Lebanese fashion shops online next. The team is currently working on introducing an online e-commerce platform that will allow Lebanese fashion shops and boutiques to sell their offering online.
