Kherna Helps Volunteers Find Suitable Causes

By Wael Nabbout | May 9, 2012 | Section: Reviews |

Kherna is a social platform for charity and development programs that aims to link volunteers and NGOs. The website allows people looking to donate or volunteer find causes suitable to their time schedule and competence.

On Kherna, users can filter causes based on their preferences for location, time of the week, skill, field, type of contribution (monetary or in-kind donations, field volunteering or working from home), or by institution in order to find an appropriate one.

The site also seeks to motivate people by awarding points and badges to the most active users, in addition to utilizing social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, whereby users can spread the word about  a certain cause on their networks to encourage their friends to participate. Users can also add their own photos or footage to the site.

Kherna was among the winners in the "Social Innovation Starts With You" competition held by Yahoo and Nahdet El-Mahrousa in 2010, as well as the World Summit Youth Awards in 2012.
