Discover Inspirational Photo Locations with SweetSpot

By Wael Nabbout | June 18, 2012 | Section: Reviews |

Founded by a three man team of photography enthusiasts, SweetSpotApp is a social network dedicated to sharing inspirational photo locations around the world. The App which is set to launch in the fall of 2012 will be available on iOS, but an Android version should quickly follow.

Karim Aita, Wissam Nawfal and Mimo Assasa, graduates in Economics, Finance and Computer Science respectively, have always had a passion for photography. Wissam for instance spent the better years of his college days playing about with a camera, and was in charge of taking photos for his school’s yearbook. But it wasn’t until recently that the team finally got their chance to translate their passion into a product. Mimo, who was traveling around Europe at the time, was so sick and tired of the generic photo-friendly scenes in Europe, like the Eiffel tower and the leaning tower of Pisa, that he decided to create an app to share and discover inspirational photo locations worldwide.

“Everyone has a sweet spot,” explains Wissam, “there are a lot of nooks and crannies in every country that people don’t talk about.” Under the moto “location is inspiration”, Wissam, Mimo and Karim decided to launch an application that allows users to geotag photos taken with any camera.

How does it work

If you turn on the SweetSpot, the app will start tracking your location while you walk around and snap pictures and keep a log of your movements. After you’ve uploaded your photos, you can connect your phone to your PC and the app will merge the location log and the time stamps of the photos and mark them on the map which other SweetSpot users can view.

The app will be priced at $3.99, but the team is currently giving users the chance to download it for free, in addition to giving away a new Nikon or Canon DLSR Camera. You can check out the details here.
